7 Tips for Boosting Your Metabolism
Boosting Your Metabolism
Do you feel like you gain weight by just looking at food? If so, you’re probably suffering from a slow metabolism.
The good news is, there are plenty of steps you can take to speed up your metabolism and turn your body into a fat burning machine.
#1 – Eat Frequently
When you starve yourself to lose weight, you are actually creating the opposite effect. Skipping meals causes your body to go into starvation mode, slowing the metabolism and storing every calorie it can. Avoid this common pitfall by eating small, healthy meals throughout the day, never going more than 5 hours without eating.
#2- Manage Your Stress
Believe it not, stress causes weight gain. When stressed, your body produces massive amounts of stress hormones that simulate fat cells in the abdomen. Deep belly fat is especially hard to get rid of, but you can avoid it by setting aside time each day to enjoy a relaxing activity such as listening to music or walking your dog.
#3 – Never Skip Breakfast
Boosting your metabolism can be as simple as eating a tasty breakfast each morning. Known as the most important meal of the day, your metabolism will get a jump-start when you nourish your mind and body with a healthy breakfast. Focus on eating breakfast foods that are high in protein and fiber.
#4 – Eat More Protein
According to the American Dietetic Association, eating more protein is an excellent way to boost your metabolism and could burn an extra 150 to 200 calories a day. Consider adding more fish, chicken, low-fat cheese, legumes and yogurt to your diet for the maximum effect.
#5 – Lift Weights
Research has shown that weight training goes a long way when boosting your metabolism. Moderate strength training can dramatically increase your resting metabolic rate, making it much easier to get rid of those excess pounds.
#6 – Break a Sweat
Boosting your metabolism can be accomplished by doing aerobic exercises on a regular basis. If you don’t have a full 30 minutes to set aside, break up your routine into 5 or 10 minute intervals throughout the day. Just be careful not to overeat when your body tells you it’s hungry after a good workout.
#7 – Drink Green Tea
A recent study showed that drinking green tea, along with 3 hours of mild exercise per week, resulted in a reduction in belly fat. Instead of counting on coffee for a caffeine boost, substitute it for an unsweetened glass of green tea.
