Whether or not you cook doesn’t determine if you can lose weight.  While people often believe you must have excellent cooking skills to successfully lose weight, the reality couldn’t be farther from the truth.  Losing weight is based on the choices you make.  Make healthy choices and you can lose weight regardless of whether or not you cook.  Here are some solutions to successfully losing weight even if you don’t really cook.

Nyc-diet-planGrocery Store Meals

Most grocery stores have pre-made meals that can be purchased.  Often these meals come pre-cooked and ready to eat.  A roasted chicken, or deli sandwich can be an excellent choice.  You can also find healthy versions of frozen meals that simply need to be heated.  Soups, salads, and vegetables are also healthy foods that require little or no preparation.

Restaurant Meals

You can continue to eat out and still lose weight.  It’s important to make healthy choices, be mindful of food preparation and always be cautious of portion sizes.  One way to maintain a healthy portion is to put half of your meal in a “to-go” box as soon as it arrives at the table.  This way you are in control of your portion size and not inadvertently overeating.  Also, take note of the healthy choices the restaurant offers.  Many restaurants today have followed the healthy living trend and now offer a “lighter side” menu.  This will offer fewer calories and often smaller portions.

Weekend Preparation

In today’s busy world, there just isn’t time to cook a healthy meal every night of the week.  Try preparing several meal choices on the weekend, or a day off, and simply freezing them.  A healthy vegetable lasagna can be prepared and frozen days before and then just placed in the oven to cook.  This way you still know how the food is prepared and can simply heat it on a busy evening.

Learn to Cook

If a lack of knowledge is really the reason you don’t cook then try taking a class.  Learn how to cook simple easy meals that don’t take a lot of time. Purchase some new cook books with healthy alternatives and try them out.  Most importantly don’t be afraid of food.

Lastly, there is always the option of meal preppers.  We can refer you to several if you are interested.
